SABRASKI SWEEPS ADVANTAGE RV'sMOD SERIES AT GONDIK LAW
SPEEDWAY

For only the second time this season racing was held at the newly named
Gondik Law Speedway (formerly AMSOIL Speedway). Horrible weather in the
month of May caused all but one scheduled event to be cancelled.
As it worked out, the next event to be held at the speedway was a visit from the
Advantage RV's Modified Touring Series based in Watertown, SD. The series is
in the midst of a northern swing which is including four of the "Northern Tier" of
WISSOTA tracks. The visit Friday to Gondik Law Speedway was hard on the
heels of the visit to the Grand Rapids Speedway on Thursday night.
A nice field of 33 WISSOTA Modifieds were in competition along with a
contingent of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and WISSOTA Pure Stocks.
The Modified format included four heat races and two B Features. The top
three in the heats advanced to the 40 lap main evant and the top two in each heat
were eligible for the redraw to determine the top eight starters. The rest would
have to compete in the two B Features with the top six in those races advancing to
the feature. In the other divisions heat races determined the starting lineups and
there were no B Features needed.
After qualifying heats and B Features were completed, the first to take to the
high banks were the Pure Stocks for their 15 lap main event. Shaina Rapp started
from the outside pole and led the first circuit but a clash with pole sitter Aaron
Burnick brought out the caution flag. Burnick was charged with the caution. On
the restart Kyle Copp got the jump on the field while James Vendela slipped into
second followed by Rapp, Andrew Hanson, Dylan Shelton and Corey Jorgenson.
Hanson passed Rapp for third, shelton was fourth, and Jorgeenson fifth. Copp
pulled away from the field but the long lead disappeared when the caution flag
flew for the stalled car of Caitlyn Carlson on the back stretch. The green flag
reappeared with 11 laps remaining and Copp once again took off like a scared
rabbit. Te rest of the event went without another caution flag and little change in
the running order. Vendela chased Copp in vain while Hanson continued in third.
After a brief battle, Jorgrnson got by Shelton into fourth. Copp went on to pick up
his first feature win of the season.
Next up it was 20 laps for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds with twenty four
of the twenty five cars able to start the main event. On;y McLean Andrews was
unable to join the field.
Craig Lofdahl started from the pole and took the early lead shadowed by Shane
Howell. Brandon Copp, Skeeter Estey and Wyatt Boyum were top five while Dan
Kingsley, Jamie Davis and Mark Kangas battled for position. The caution flag
flew when Boyum stopped against the first turn wall, then drove away. At the
same time Billy Milne got hung up on a marker tire and Skeeter Estey had what
appeared to be a terminal failure in the rear suspension on the other end of the
track. The restart came with three laps complete and Lofdahl still at the at the
point but the players behind him changed as Copp got to second, Davis third with
Howell pushed back to fourth and Boyum fifth. Another caution flag flew when
Wayne Jacques hit a marker tire at the exit of turn four. The restart came with
fifteen laps to go and Davis made a strong move in turn four and got by Lofdahl
into the lead. That was not the only move made as Boyum took third, Copp fourth
and Howell fifth being harassed by Kingsley and Kangas. Before all that could be
settled caution number three occurred when Jacques and Tanner Williamson
tangled in turns one and two. Two more laps were scored before the caution. At
the restart Davis clung to the lead over Lofdahl while Copp was pushed back to
fourth just ahead of Kingsley. Davis began to extend his lead over Lofdahl while
Copp got back to third past Howell and Kangas passed Kingsley and the front
runners were joined by Andrew Inman still another caution flag flew for debris in
turn one. The restat came with nine laps still to go. Davis was firmly in the lead
with Lofdahl dogging his tire tracks. Kangas made a strong move and got to third
with Copp fourth and Nick Daronco moved past Kingsley and Howell to fifth. The
fifth and final caution flag appeared for more debris in turn one. Davis lasted the
final three circuits for the win followed by Lofdahl, Kangas, Howell and Daronco
in the top five.
The grand finale of the evening was the 40 lap main event for the Advantage
RV's Modifieds. Shane Sabraski was in a perfect spot to complete the sweep as he
started off from outside the front row. He wasted no time at the green flag, but
shot to the lead followed closely by pole sitter Andy Jones. Darrell Nelson was
third but Bob Broking wasted even less time as he shot into fourth from the fourth
row on the initial circuit. Nelson got by Jones into second with Broking fourth and
Rick Jacobson fifth. With three laps complete the caution flag flew for a clash
between Dan Ebert and Skeeter Estey which sent Ebert to the back of the pack.
Sabraski maintained the lead over Nelson and Jones but another caution flag for
Todd Gehl in turn three flew. The order at the green was Sabraski easily in the
lead over Nelson while Jacobson was third, then Broking, Jones, Dave Cain and a
charging Johnny Broking already seventh from his ninth starting spot. Just when it
looked as though they would settle down an do some racing, up popped another
caution flag this tim for a spinning Jeremy Nelson in turn two. With 32 laps still to
go, racing resumed with Sabraski still showing his rear bumper to Nelson, et al.
Broking got the jump on Nelson into second but Nelson blew back around him in
the fourth turn. Johnny Broking worked his way to fifth while Ebert had already
blew through the pack and was harassing Cain for the seventh spot. Jones
managed to get by Johnny Broking to fourth as laps began to fly by with no
stoppages. The front four began to put some distance on Johnny Broking who was
alone in fifth. Cain, Jacobson and Ebert battled each other and closed back up.
Ebert got by Jacobson to seventh and began to work on Cain taking over sixth by
the half way mark. Things settled down and the leaders worked their way through
traffic. Nelson lost touch with Sabraski who was a good fifteen car lengths out
front in traffic. With ten to go Nelson began to run down Sabraski while Bob
Broking and Jones maintained their positions. Sabraski went on to complete the
sweep though it was a near thing as Nelson made a run on him on the last lap but
came up just short. Bob Broking was third, Jones was fourth and Ebert completed
his come back by getting by Johnny Broking for a fifth place finish. Seventeen of
24 cars finished the event.
